It has been described as the “easternmost building of the Graeco-Roman world” and is the only extant Greco-Roman temple in the former Soviet Union. Originally dedicated to the sun god Mihr, it later served as a royal summer house. Although it collapsed in a 1679 earthquake, it was reconstructed between 1969 and 1975 using the anastylosis method.
